"[Jesus said,] 'And I will do anything you ask in my name. Then the Son will bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name. I will do it.'" (John 14:13–14)

Re: SPIRITUALITY THREAD
see that is one of those passages that get people all twisted up, they think that they can ask Jesus for all kinds of things "in his name" and he will give it to them, then they get bummed out or disillusioned when they don't get what they think they want. I think its more of a case for working towards an ideal, like Jesus is the embodiment of an ideal, the ideal human, and when you ask for things in his name, his name is the representation of the ideal so you are asking for the power of the holy spirit to give you the strength to reach an ideal in a given moment.... that is my understanding of the trinity, the father gives structure to existence with a set of moral ethics, a way to live life in a chaotic world. The son is the human example of the potentiality of a human to achieve that ideal, and the holy spirit is the power within us to reach that ideal. I think in this way its not just asking for whatever and passively praying for things, its a pathway toward understanding and having the courage and strength to get there.
