I fucking love MREs. These babies fueled me through many a Boy Scout camping trip. When you hike up and down hills for hours you really appreciate the amount of calories in a single package these things could hold. When I was regularly eating them the Iraq war was in full swing and MRE menus were transitioning out of the awkward teenage years of the 90s menus and into a sort of young adulthood of the early to mid 2000s. What that meant is that the flameless ration heaters were potent enough to put in a water bottle and make a bomb, the main courses were hit or miss enough to make trading with other scouts a fun and tactical bonding event, and we had motherfuckin JALAPENO CHEESE SPREAD BABY. Even in modern MREs it's for some reason increasingly rare to find that golden paste. One of these days I need to hit up one of the half million surplus stores in Phoenix and buy a bunch. It's way past time for a colon stopping shelf stable bread binge.

This stuff fried up nice and crispy on a cast iron is delicious.
Throw in a couple of eggs and you're set.

Guys. It's really not that bad. You just have to rinse off the industrial lubricant once it's out of the can.

Brookdale is the largest company in America that tasks itself with taking care of old people before they die in the form of nursing homes, independent living communities, rehabilitation centers, and other in-patient services.

Brookdale is also the brand of a mystery meat fed to consumers around America.

I feel like... I just feel like maybe... there's... there's a connection there somewhere.
