An observant article mightve been how shitty University of Hawaii-Hilo and Hilo itself are. Lots of rains, no sandy beaches, shitty government town. Nobody really surfs in Hilo either. Real Hilo Hawaiians fish and hunt, or might even go to the Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo town, neither of which are mentioned.
